Was Violetta from Verdiâs Traviata the greatest role of Maria Callas? The lucky ones who could witness one of her many performances back then, notably the legendary 1955 Scala production by Lucchino Visconti, have long remembered the incredible singer and tragedian impersonating this heartbreaking character struck by illness and thwarted love. The only recorded version she left features Francesco Albanese and Ugo Savarese.
