Mahuia has won both the APRA Best Film Score and the APRA Maioha Award, he has also been previously nominated for Best Film Score for Housebound and Fantail at both the APRA Silver Scrolls and The NZ Film Awards. Other nominations include the APRA Silver Scroll Award for best original song and Axis Soundtrack of the Year. He is also founding member of The Black (String) Quartet.
